Manitoba Inuit Association Grand Opening of New Location

July 8, 2019

Manitoba Inuit Association (MIA), the representative organization for Inuit living in Manitoba, will be celebrating the Grand Opening of their new offices located at 1000 Notre Dame in Winnipeg, Manitoba on July 9, 2019.

"This is a dream come true", stated Fred Ford President and Board Chair of the Manitoba Inuit Association. "I and every Inuk living in Manitoba have been waiting for space to call our own, a place where we as Inuit can gather and seek out our family members and friends. Cultural connection is fundamental to who we are as Inuit and having 'space' to do this in a safe and culturally appropriate way is vital to who we are as Inuit", say Ford.

The grand opening will take place on July 9, 2019 at 1:00 pm at the new offices of the Manitoba Inuit Association.

Community members, founding members, allied agencies and partners will be on hand for the traditional lighting of the Qulliq and leaders of the Inuit community will be officially opening the doors of Manitoba Inuit Association.

MIA is currently providing Inuit-specific services such as our Education Connections program (education supports, Inuit student mentorship programs), Kativiik Program (Inuit-centered counseling and supports groups for Inuit families impacted by MMIWG) and launching our Red Amautiit program in the fall that will work with local Inuit and 13 Inuit communities from Kivalliq region of Nunavut as well as Inuit from Nunatsiavut on an Inuit commemorative project honoring the lives of missing/murdered Inuit women and girls.

Thousands of Inuit come to Manitoba every year for training, health care, advanced education, or to seek further opportunities. Hundreds of Inuit have made Manitoba their permanent home, and every year, the number of Inuit moving South increases.

The Manitoba Inuit Association's mission is to enhance the lives of Inuit in Manitoba, Canada by promoting Inuit values, community, and culture while connecting Inuit to services that meet our evolving needs.
